NEW ENGLAND SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS TO BE INTRODUCED AT FENWAY PARK TOMORROW
BOSTON, MA – The Red Sox Foundation will introduce recipients of the New England Service Scholarships during a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park before the 7:10 p.m. Red Sox-Blue Jays game tomorrow, Friday, June 27. The program recognizes graduating high school seniors throughout New England who are making a meaningful impact through local community service by awarding them a $1,000 college scholarship.
One hundred public high school graduates from all six New England states have been awarded scholarships this year. A full list of the award recipients is attached. The Red Sox Foundation will also recognize Abigail Lee of Malden, MA, the winner of the inaugural Somers Scholarship Fund. The new scholarship, announced earlier this spring, is funded by the family of Fenway Sports Group Partner Steve Somers and honors the memory of Somers’ mother, Helen Manning, a 1946 graduate of Malden High School.
Prior to their on-field recognition, the group will participate in a service project to benefit The Jed Foundation, a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for teens and young adults, to pack 2,000 mental health kits. The Jed Foundation is also being recognized during the month of July through the Red Sox’ Changeup the Conversation program, a new season-long initiative that highlights and amplifies the work of nonprofit organizations, advancing mental health and wellness access across New England. Following the service project, Scholars will have the opportunity to hear from a panel of professionals on how they advance community through their careers at their respective organizations.
The New England Service Scholarship Program is supported by Aramark, Biogen Foundation, Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast, Moderna, Point32Health, Steve Somers, and Thrivent. Since the creation of the program in 2010, the Foundation has recognized over 1,900 students as New England Service Scholars.
