RED SOX FOUNDATION AND BOSTON AREA CHURCH LEAGUE INSTALL BATTING CAGE AT ROXBURY YMCA

BOSTON – The Red Sox Foundation and the Boston Area Church League today announced the installation of an outdoor batting cage at the Roxbury YMCA. The new batting cage will be unveiled this Sunday, April 8, in a special event for the community from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. featuring a visit from Wally the Green Monster and photo opportunities with the World Series trophy.

The Roxbury batting cage is part of a broader effort by the Red Sox Foundation to install new cages at youth and family centers throughout the City of Boston, addressing a need for access to practice facilities for kids participating in amateur baseball and softball programs.

This is the third batting cage to be installed by the Red Sox Foundation in Boston this year. In January, a batting cage in Mission Hill at the Boston Center for Youth and Family’s Tobin location was installed, and earlier this week, a new batting cage was added at BCYF’s Curtis Hall in Jamaica Plain. Both BCYF batting cages were made possible through a grant from the Youth Development Foundation, a partnership between Major league Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association.

Two more cages are slated for installation at Boston centers in 2017, at BCYF’s Paris Street location in East Boston, and at the Hyde Park Community Center.

Before January, the closest batting cage available to Boston-area youth was located in Watertown.
