RED SOX PARTNER WITH MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY BOSTON TO PROVIDE FREE ADMISSION DURING SCHOOL VACATION WEEK

BOSTON, MA – In recognition of Black History Month, the Red Sox and Red Sox Foundation are partnering with the Museum of African American History in Boston to provide free admission and tours for all visitors from February 18 to 23, coinciding with school vacation week in the city.

The free admission is extended to all visitors of the museum, including self-guided tours and educational group tours. The museum is currently showing a special exhibit entitled “Picturing Frederick Douglass,” featuring the many portraits of the escaped slave who became one of the most prominent activists, speakers, and leaders of the abolitionist movement. Additional information about current museum exhibits and hours can be found by visiting maah.org.

The Red Sox will end the month with a volunteer effort at the Putnam Place Boys Program, an organization that helps adolescent boys live healthy lifestyles by emphasizing personal growth and community connections. Front office volunteers will help clean their Dorchester facility on Glendale Street.

Students throughout New England have an opportunity to enter Major League Baseball’s Breaking Barriers Essay Contest, which provides a chance for diverse students of all backgrounds in grades 4-9 to share their personal stories about how they use Jackie Robinson’s nine values to face their own barriers. The club encourages students to submit essays before the March 14 deadline. A total of 10 winners will be chosen nationally with two grand prizes that include a trip to the 2019 World Series for winners in grades 7-9, and a trip to the 2019 All Star Game for winners in 4-6 grade. Essays can be mailed, emailed, or uploaded online. For more details, visit mlb.com/BreakingBarriers.
