Red Sox Scholars Application is now available!
The Red Sox Scholars presented by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is a college scholarship and enrichment program managed by the Red Sox Foundation. The program was created in 2003 under the leadership of Principal Owner John Henry, Chairman Tom Werner, and then President/CEO Larry Lucchino as part of their commitment to the community. From 2003 to 2006, the program selected twenty-five (25) fifth-grade students to receive scholarships of $5,000. Over the next 5 years, the Red Sox Foundation increased the amount of each scholarship to $10,000, while also reducing the number of Scholars in each new class to ten (10) and selecting them in the seventh grade. In 2016, the program transitioned into its current form when Doris Buffett and the Letters Foundation committed to funding an additional two (2) Scholars – “Sunshine Scholars” – per year.
